Tuning from home through the OBD port

The great thing about modern diesel vehicles is that they are all fitted with an On Board Diagnostics Port (OBD Port).

This means you can read and write the ECU data yourself, saving lots of money on travelling to trusted tuners, and extra expenses incurred for labor costs.

To do this, you will need to purchase a tool such as the Galletto 1260, or a KWP2000. This will enable you to read the original ECU data from your Bosch EDC15 ECU (these can be purchased for around £20 from ebay).

You can then email the standard ECU data file to remap@hdi-tuning.co.uk, and we will make you a custom remap from your original ECU software.

When the high quality remap file has been made, it will be emailed back to you, and you can then upload it using the same tool. The typical turn around time is less than 24 hours for this file only service.

At HDI-tuning we can make a remap for any vehicle fitted with the 2.0 HDI engine, be it a 90 BHP model, or a 110 BHP model as long as it has a Bosch EDC15C2 ECU. If your vehicle is not listed it is likely due to the fact that it is fitted with the Siemens ECU, which we do not currently tune. If you are unsure about this, it is easy to check by looking at the stickers on the back of the ECU.

If your Vehicle is not listed, please contact us on: remap@hdi-tuning.co.uk

If you would like the original ECU file for your car due to a bad remap from one of the many cowboy tuners out there, please check out the downloads page.

Also available is a free checksum tool. This helps to check if your file has downloaded correctly!

Custom Remapping & Services Available In Leicester

If you happen to live near to Leicester, you may prefer to have all the work taken out by my company. This service will cost more however, as more of the work would have to be undertaken by myself, but you will get the added benefits of a free diagnostics testing session before and after the remap.

This helps to ensure that your engine and the associated sensors are working properly.

Additional Services

Additional services include:

  • DPF-Removal
  •

If you get a warning message telling you to 'unblock diesel filter' then it is likely you have a problem with your Diesel Particulate Filter.

The Diesel particulate filter was added to the newer 110BHP 2.0 HDI models.

It was designed to 're-generate' using an oil called Eloys Fluid. This will burn inside the DPF and remove any soot. This will only happen on long journeys. If you make lots of short trips then it is possible for the DPF to clog and cause faults codes to appear, and lots of smoke.

We can remove the DPF from the ECU software by a remap. This will switch off the regeneration and post injection processes. It will also tell the ECU that the Eloys fluid is full.

You can then remove the DPF from the exhaust system and have no further problems whilst gaining a few extra BHP from the free-er exhaust system.

  • Live Diagnsotics with Peugeot Planet or Lexia
  •

Using the same software as a Peugeot/Citroen garage, I can find any fault codes and give detailed descriptions of what they are, and what is causing them.

The benefit of having your diagnostics done by me is that I understand how the HDI engine works. This means I can easily find faults even if the diagnostics software doesn't pick anything up.

Many dealerships will charge £60 to connect their diagnostics, and will often leave you none the wiser.

I will diagnose your faults for just £20, and I will make no charge if I cannot help you.

I will also help you diagnose your own faults via email, there will be no charge for this as it is usually easy to figure out the common faults with the HDI engine!

  • Launch Control
  •

Through some clever programming it is possible to limit the engine revs whilst the car is not moving. The power in first gear can also be limited. This means that the driver can hold the accelerator pedal all the way down, and concentrate only on the clutch during launch. The rev limit will stop as soon as the car goes above a certain speed, this can be set by you.

This is great for mega quick launches, also bouncing rev limiters can also be applied to individual gears.

    Cost: £30

  • EGR Removal through the ECU
  • The Exhaust Gas Re-circulation function can be removed from the ECU software to prevent a fault code being logged when it is removed. This will require the EGR to be left unplugged.

    Cost: £20

  • Intake port removal through the ECU
  • The intake port flap can be removed to cause less of a restriction when tuning your vehicle above a stage one tune. It may also need to be removed if it has broken, and removal is more cost effective than a replacement part. This will require the plug to be disconnected to prevent damage to the solenoid

    Cost: £20
